Krk Prosciutto

Šurlice, Gnocchi, and Makaruni

Handmade šurlice pasta is an essential part of Venetian culinary heritage. Like its relatives makaruni and gnocchi, it is prepared by hand and served with sauces made from wild herbs, fish, or meat.

Lamb

Fish and scampi

Mediterranean cuisine, recognised by UNESCO, is part of Krk’s identity. Its main attractions are fish and scampi, caught fresh by local fishermen. Drizzled with homemade olive oil and wine, they become true island delicacies.

Olive oil

Žlahtina

This indigenous white wine gets its name from the Slavic word “žlahten”, meaning noble. That speaks volumes about the character of this autochthonous white wine whose plantations are mostly located in the Vrbničko polje. Fruity and refreshing, it pairs well with all Krk specialties, especially in the warmer months.

Imbrijagon

Imbrijagon, or “drunken biscuit”, is a fragrant dry cookie traditionally prepared in the city of Krk ahead of holidays. Made from shortcrust pastry with powdered anise and anise liqueur, its recipe is a well-guarded local secret. Designed to last long, these cookies often vanish quickly due to their excellent taste.

Krk princess cake

Legend has it that this rich cake was created in the 15th century for the wedding of Nikola Frankopan and his bride Dorotea. Filled with premium ingredients like almonds, walnuts, oranges, honey, and dried figs, it’s both luscious and refreshing, with a caloric richness befitting the noble family for whom it was crafted.
