Come to Krk on 15th August for an event dedicated to sailing, and discover the bragoc, pasara, guc, batana, gajeta, and leut. Marvel at the skill with which their crews “whisper” to the winds during this regatta celebrating Krk’s maritime tradition.
The idea and effort behind the event stem from the members of the Krk Sailing Club “Plav”, the oldest such organisation in Croatia, established in 1876. The Krk Sails event has been held annually on the Feast of the Assumption since 1998, showcasing the maritime heritage of Krk. Traditionally, it begins at noon when boats set sail from Krk’s harbour.
Over the years, the regatta has grown into a multi-day event. Children and adults alike can enjoy a variety of sporting, cultural, entertaining, and educational activities related to the sea and Krk’s maritime legacy. Visitors can explore exhibitions, while numerous educational activities are conducted at the Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre of Krk.
The moment that everyone is eagerly waiting for is the night dance of the boats, a demonstration sailing in the harbour at night, with light effects and music.
The programme is enriched with musical performances, and a highlight of the event is the awarding of prizes to the most skilful sailors.
