On St Lawrence’s Day, 10th August, the people of Krk and their guests have been trading, dancing, and singing for over five centuries! Records show that the fair was reapproved in 1524, although its origins likely date back to the Middle Ages. Lovrečeva is a meeting place for trading traditional local products and handicrafts, as well as an opportunity to experience the rich cultural and traditional heritage of Krk.
If you plan to attend one event in Krk, let it be Lovrečeva! Its centuries-old tradition of trading local goods, as well as fostering social encounters, has shaped the identity of the Krk’s oldest event, which spans three full days and is free for all visitors.
Over the centuries, the fair attracted crowds from across the island and beyond, with trade involving foodstuffs, livestock, wool, fabrics, tools, copper cookware, barrels, handicrafts, and gold and silver jewellery. A special regime was applied to facilitate favourable trading conditions. Vendors’ stalls were set up along St Lawrence’s Field, near the Grand City Gate.
Evolving into one of the main social events, the fair continues to be eagerly anticipated today. From theatrical performances and knightly battles to traditional workshops where you can learn to harvest honey or felt wool, Lovrečeva offers entertainment and skill-building for the whole family. The event also features a Frankopan parade, folk performances, and various concerts that fill the city’s core with vibrant energy.
At the Krk Fair, you can purchase local souvenirs, whether you’re drawn to handcrafted items, natural cosmetics, or edible delicacies such as honey, olive oil, and traditional pastries.
