The ancient Greeks believed the fig’s inner strength could enlighten and purify everything it touched. They thought eating figs allowed one to bite into the seeds of wisdom and uncover hidden knowledge. We believe everything is best tested first-hand. That’s why we invite you to visit Fig Days in Krk, held in late August and early September!
The fig, along with the olive, is a symbol of the Mediterranean and the island of Krk. Its sprawling trees are found in many island gardens, though they grow spontaneously across the island, nurtured by its warm climate and favourable terrain.
Fig Days are organised in September, during the peak of the fig season. During this time, most of Krk’s dining establishments offer creative fig-based dishes, while stalls near the city park showcase figs in the starring role.
For those eager to learn more, professional lectures on fig cultivation and uses are held. This multi-day event also features an entertaining programme and numerous musical performances.
Dried figs, jams, fig sweets and chocolates, fig-themed decorative ceramics, fig-based face cream... there are so many imaginative, but also beneficial products that local family-run farms offer visitors on Fig Days!
